Wholehearted Cohort

Our lives are endlessly messy and complex.  Certainly we are lucky enough to experience incredible moments of joy but often, in the same day, sometimes in the same breath, we taste the depths of tragedy that wreck our souls.  Our relationships are works in progress, our jobs are overwhelming, our homes are in disarray, our spiritual lives seem flat, we are tired, we are distracted, and we long for times of celebration or peace – or at least, rest.  Many of us are plagued by busyness. Others by shame. Some by perfection.  And even others by ________ (go ahead and fill in the blank, you are not alone!).  Yet, we all get to the end of the day and wonder aloud, “Is this the best life I can live?  Could there be more?”

Dr. Brene Brown, in her book, The Gifts of Imperfection, attempts to tackle the messiness and complexity of life by introducing what she calls “Wholehearted Living.”  She writes,

Wholehearted living is about engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness.  It means cultivating the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough.  Its going to bed at night thinking, Yes I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.

Discovering and living a Wholehearted Life has so much to do with Jesus and faith and hope and community.  For in Jesus we find our worth, our courage, our compassion and our connection.  In Jesus, he tells us that we are enough and worthy of love and belonging.  This Formation Cohort is designed to walk through Dr. Brown’s book and unpack some simple theology along the way to help us better understand ourselves, Jesus, and the world around us.  Please join us for this six week journey!

Register HERE so that we can have enough materials and childcare (if needed) on hand.

In week 5 we’ll be discussing the themes of:

    • Cultivating Plan and Rest
      • Letting go of Exhaustion as a Status Symbol, and Productivity as Self-Worth
    • Cultivating Calm and Silence
