Announcements: 10/18/2009
Here are the details from the announcements you heard during the service on Sunday:
> 31 in 31 Challenge
At the core of our current series which began today – soapboxes & hand grenades – is our challenge to you who attend Warehouse [and your friends and family] to read the book of Proverbs in October. 31 chapters in 31 days. We started on October 1, but it’s not too late to join in. We’ve provided bookmarks as reminders – they have a list of topics for the series on the back matched up to the days we’re reading – the bookmarks, and Bibles, are available on the table at the kiosks.
This is a “not really optional” thing we’re doing as a community. Take the challenge!
> Basics_Engage
Warehouse was born to bring people that wouldn’t otherwise go to church into a relationship with God. Everything we do is built around that mission — and out of that, we want to impact our city in a radical way.
There is a movement, and you are the core of it.
On October 14th we started the third part in our series of Basics classes, called Engage. This one is a very practical look at how to engage in the mission of getting the gospel to our normal friends and to this city. Join us for the next three Wednesdays… you don’t have to have attended the first class to attend the next three sessions.
> Week One – October 14
Bruce is encouraging everyone in the community to try to attend. He will be leading this class and focusing on how to have conversations about faith with normal friends. It is a can’t miss class for those of you who long to see your friends come to faith, and are desirous of seeing God use you more powerfully and consistently in his mission of bringing those apart from God back to Him through Jesus.
> Week Two – October 21 – Engaging Sunday
Steve Whitby will lead a conversation about what we actually do on Sunday mornings. He will walk through everything we are trying to do on a Sunday, and how we seek to impact a normal person who attends. This is essential for you in following up in conversations with your friends, and praying for God’s impact on them.
> Week Three – October 28 – Engaging Service
Marc Dickman will lead us in a discussion about the pathways to leadership within Warehouse. In the course of the evening we will explore our vision for people developing as leaders and find specifically how you can engage with passion and impact through the ministries of Warehouse.
> Week Four – November 4 – Engaging Leadership
Kurt Graves, long-time elder at Warehouse and General Manager of Orchid Ceramics, will offer his insight and encouragement about what it looks like, and what it takes, to be a leader outside the confines of the church. Kurt’s discussion will challenge us to find our place of impact in the culture around us.
This series of classes will contain critical, practical information that can make each of us far more equipped to be used by God for eternal influence.
Childcare will be provided. Please e-mail basics@warehouse242.org to let us know you need childcare, how many kids, and their ages.
> Kidz Worship & Large Group Informational Meeting
Each week during the 10.40am service, a dedicated team of volunteers comes together to present a Bible story and real life examples of living out faith to a group of 50+ elementary-aged children. We’re looking to add several more actors and storytellers to our team. We’re also working to add a time of worship to this gathering.
If you are an actor, storyteller, or someone who can lead kids in singing and dancing, please join us for an informational meeting to find more about how you can use your talent to impact the lives of children at Warehouse 242. You don’t have to be a musician to help us lead worship. You just have to have a dynamic personality and the ability to get kids engaged and excited.
We’ll gather on Sunday, October 18th at 12:15pm in the Blue Room to discuss these opportunities and how you can get involved. Snacks and childcare provided. For more info, e-mail shannon@warehouse242.org
> Family Promise – All This Week
Warehouse’s partnership with Family Promise resumes October 18-25. During this week, Warehouse will once again open up our building to host 4 homeless families whose children attend school in CMS. The families eat breakfast and dinner with us, and sleep the night in a safe and climate-controlled environment. During the day, the children take the bus to their CMS school, and the parents receive job and financial training, with the goal of finding a place to live. After spending the week at Warehouse, these families will move to a different church for another week, if they haven’t yet secured permanent housing.
There are lots of exciting ways to volunteer, including:
-Serving dinner.
-Helping provide weekend activities.
-Helping the families pack up and move out.
-Driving the furniture, and the families to the next church.

> Volunteer Sign-ups for Christmas Village Toy Store starts today at Noon!
Last year, a number of our small groups and volunteers lamented, “Man, when we went online to volunteer for the toy store, all the best volunteer opps were already filled!”
In order to make it a “fair start” for all of our church partners, we are officially launching the Toy Store web site this Sunday at noon. At that time, small groups and individuals can begin signing up to volunteer the week of Dec. 13th. After church this Sunday, head to www.christmasvillagetoystore.com and click “Volunteer” to sign up. Over 1,000 volunteer slots will be ready to be filled!
> Studio 242 / Third Tuesday – October 20
Studio is the creative core of Warehouse 242. Join us this Tuesday at the Caribou on East Boulevard at 7pm. For more info about Studio, check out warehouse242.org/studio
> Kids’ Clothing Sale for Warehouse in Zimbabwe
Are you wondering what to do with all those children’s clothes, shoes, strollers, backpacks and toys that are piling up in your closets? Do you have items from your own childhood that you want to get rid of? Why not donate them to the Kids Clothing Sale, this Saturday, October 24 on the outside docks near the Coffee Room. All the proceeds will help fund Warehouse’s new investment in Zimbabwe with HOPE for AIDS. Please make sure all items are cleaned and “gently used.”
Drop off your items at the Coffee Room entrance this Thursday, from 5-8pm and Friday, from 5-9pm and come back for the sale on Saturday, from 7:30am to 4pm. For more information, e-mail aids@warehouse242.org.
Warehouse is built for you to dive in and engage a movement, not sit back and have spiritual pizza deliveries delivered to you. If you want to engage, here are a few places to start:
