Announcements on September 16th, 2009 No Comments

Here are the details from the announcements you heard during the service on Sunday:

studio.242 third tuesday – September 15

Join us for a work and meet session at the workspace in NoDa this Tuesday, September 15 at 7pm. The address is 3452 Chagall Ct., Charlotte, NC 28205. Enter by either door. There are two parking spaces right next to the door and there is additional parking past the building on the right.

The Loading Dock – September 27

For all of those of you who call Warehouse your church home—especially those who have attended for years—the Loading Dock is designed for you. The Loading Dock covers:
1. Why we exist
2. What we believe
3. And what it means to be a Participating Member.

Participating Membership says: “I’m all in.” If you attend faithfully and aren’t yet a member, whether you realize it or not, you are making your participation in church all about you. Participating Membership is about how the committed core submit to God’s direction in this local church. The newly formatted class—yes, now there is only one—will take place on September 27 from 12:15 to 2:00 p.m. in the Blue Room upstairs. So for all of you who said, “I can’t make three weeks in a row” you are officially out of excuses.

To register and to find general information, head to: warehouse242.org/loadingdock

We will serve lunch, and childcare is provided. Just let us know in advance how many kids you need us to watch.

Habitat for Humanity Project

Beginning Saturday, September 19, Warehouse will be partnering with First Presbyterian Church to build a 5-bedroom house for a family of eight (six children) in our neighborhood, just down the street on the other side of Wal-Mart. This is a great opportunity to meet new folks, or to bring out your current small group and serve together.

For information about how you and your small group can roll up your sleeves for our neighbors, please e-mail homerepair@warehouse242.org

Box Tops for Bishop Spaugh

Before you recycle that cereal box, or throw away that bag of snacks, make sure you look and see if it carries the Box Tops for Education label. If it does, cut out the label, bring it to Warehouse, and drop it in the collection boxes at the Serve/Engage kiosk. Throughout this school year, we will be collecting Box Tops for Bishop Spaugh middle school. Each Box Top we collect is worth 10¢ for the school. The teachers are on board too, and the classroom that collects the most Box Tops will get to have a free pizza party, hosted by Heather and Mark Roberts’ small group.

Here’s a full list of products that carry the Box Tops for Education logo.

Supplies for Books Bags for Bishop Spaugh Community Academy

Thanks to those of you who purchased backpacks and supplies for our Camp Greene middle school, Bishop Spaugh Community Academy. Through a generous contribution, we have reached our goal of 600 backpacks! And then some!

The brand-new Principal at Bishop Spaugh – the lowest performing middle school in the entire state of North Carolina – has asked for our help in providing her at-risk students with basic school supplies. Located less than one mile from Warehouse, these students are ready for us to help them succeed.

Place your donated supplies in the collection barrels next to the Engage/Serve kiosk on Sundays throughout September.

Here’s your shopping list:
> 3” 3-ring binders
> 3-hole punched lined paper
> No. 2 pencils & pencil sharpener
> Colored pencils
> One subject notebook
> Dividers for binders
> Pencil pouch for binder
> Glue sticks

We exist to serve our neighbors, and this is how our neighbors have asked for our help.

Target Red Check Card / Take Charge of Education

We still want to encourage you to go get a Target Red Check Card so that your Target purchases benefit our neighbors.

Since we began promoting this, only about 20 people have signed up to help our neighborhood middle schoolers. How do we know? You can check the total number of new cardholders (excluding their names, of course) on the Target web site. Surely we can do better than this! Please pick up a flyer before you leave today!

Since we began promoting this, some of you have asked us, “Can we link our VIC card to Bishop Spaugh as well?” You sure can! Go to the Harris Teeter Web Site and enter Bishop Spuagh’s code: 1516.

If you forget this number, head to the warehouse web site, and click on “the skinny.” We’ll have the Harris Teeter link waiting for you there.

Bishop Spaugh is currently not enrolled in the Food Lion, Bi-Lo and Bloom programs, but we are working to make that happen!

To sign-up for a Red Card, take a blank check to Target during your next visit, and speak to a Customer Service representative about applying. The process will take less than 10 minutes.

For more info, e-mail service@warehouse242.org

We exist so that our neighbors will rejoice by our presence in the neighborhood. Practically serving them doesn’t get much easier than this!
