The Sistine Seven.

In the upcoming series starting this Sunday – The Sistine Seven – we will be looking together at seven “highlight” moments in the life of Jesus. Each of them is a marker. A defining moment. And laced together they

give us a sense of movement in the story of his three-year ministry. Much like we did this summer in the movie series, pulling 5-7 clips out of each movie in order to tell the story of the movie, the medieval designers of the Sistine Chapel pulled out seven key moments in the life of Jesus to tell his story. As we walk through these seven moments, leading up to the Resurrection on Easter Sunday, we will be doing so with some creative resources to provide backdrop and support.
Each of the seven weeks is represented in a fresco on the walls of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. Some of the most famous Renaissance artists were commissioned to paint these frescoes. Each of these works is laden with multiple images designed to tell a story and teach the masses, which at that time were largely illiterate. Nine of our artists at Warehouse will be designing new works of art, in the style of the graphic novel, to re-create this movement.
The most important question to ask, as you walk through this series and take in the art and the music and the messages, will be rather simple – What marks you?
