The Skinny: February 4, 2018
Headlines & Sunday Announcements
Tuesday, February 6 @ 6:30pm
Dominique Gilliard will be the keynote speaker at February’s Warehouse Talks event. The theme is “Locked in Solidarity – Responding to Mass Incarceration.” We’ll have a panel discussion featuring voices of folks who have been directly impacted by mass incarceration. There will be Jazz music from Greg Jarrel and refreshments will be provided by Toucan Louie’s.
Doors open at 6:30pm, so come out early to enjoy refreshments from Toucan Louie’s while listening to some excellent live Jazz music from Greg Jarrel.
We will not be offering childcare for this event, so go ahead and plan accordingly. This event is open to everyone, so please spread the word!
Wednesday, February 14 @ 7pm
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a season in which we come to terms with our brokenness and long for the beauty of resurrection. This year, artist, educator, and activist Steve Prince will be leading us to reflect and join the movement from lament to celebration, from dirge to second line, that not only marks the journey of following Jesus, but also finds artistic expression in New Orleans jazz and Prince’s own visual compositions. Anyone is welcome to this evening of art, music, contemplation, and longing.
Childcare for infants – preschool will be available.
Sunday mornings, Feb 18-Mar 25 @8:45
As the days lengthen and we turn toward Spring, Lent gives us a time to reflect and examine our lives in preparation for Easter. It’s a season in the church year in Ordinary Time, whose color is traditionally green, “the growing time” – and so much of that growth happens beneath the surface. Lent Underground will be a 6 week series for anyone who longs to grow in relationship with Christ and deepen awareness of God’s movement in their life and in the world. We will use a variety of creative and spiritual formation activities/practices to engage with scripture, both in and out of class.
Sunday mornings, 8:45-9:45
February 18 to Sunday, March 25
Registration deadline: Monday, February 12
Childcare is available.
Questions? Feel free to contact Roxanne Morgan with “Lent Underground” in the subject area.
Friday, February 16 @6pm
Let the DR Team members watch your kiddos while you go out on a belated Valentine’s Day date! Or, take a nap. Hey, we don’t judge…
Drop off your kids at Warehouse between 6-6:30pm. We’ll entertain them with crafts, games, and a movie! Feel free to drop the kids off in their pj’s and bring along their pillow and blanket.
For the low, low price of $35 for the first kid and $10 for each additional kid, you’ll receive expert care by people who really love your kids AND dinner, snacks and drinks! That’s right, we’ll even feed them!
Please plan to pick up the kiddos no later than 9:30pm.
Please register so we know how many to plan for, but come prepared to pay at the door with cash or check. All money raised this evening goes to funding the medical mission trip the team will be making to the Dominican Republic in March.
