What role does Serendipity play in award-winning news reporting and journalistic storytelling? We’ll find out when Charlottean Nick de la Canal joins us on Friday, May 12 to speak to us about the impressive craft he’s been honing at WFAE, NPR’s All Things Considered, Latino USA, and other national programs. Tickets are FREE and will be available at CharlotteIsCreative.com at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 8.

WFAE’s Nick de la Canal can be heard on public radio airwaves across the Charlotte region, bringing listeners the latest in local and regional updates. He’s been a part of the WFAE newsroom since 2013, when he began as an intern. His reporting helped the station earn an Edward R. Murrow award for coverage following the Keith Scott shooting and protests in Sept. 2016. His work has been heard on NPR’s All Things Considered, Latino USA, and other national programs. He grew up in Charlotte, graduated from Myers Park High, and received a degree in journalism from Emerson College in Boston.

> Link your Harris Teeter VIC Card to Ashley Park PreK-8 School
> Join the care team whose job it is to encourage and support the faculty and staff at Ashley Park
> Mentor a student in reading. Our goal is to increase from 4 to 15 mentors by the end of February!
>Donate items for the Ashley Park Greater Enrichment Program. Drop them off next week in the barrels at Kids Check-In and in the arena.
> Contribute funds towards the Ashley Park first ever field trip! You can give online (choose West Charlotte in the drop down menu) or drop a check in the offering basket with Ashley Park in the memo. For more info, email Kelly Brunk.
